In the field of the visual arts, Ariano Suassuna’s collection is formed by works of diversified genres (drawing, painting, wood engraving, sculpture, tapestry, mosaic, ceramic and handcrafts), signed by both erudite and popular great Brazilian artists. In almost its totality – with the exception of some pieces located in his farm house, in the city of Taperoá, Sate of Paraíba –, the collection is divided into his two houses in great Recife: the house in the neighborhood of Casa Forte, in Recife, and the apartment on the beach of Candeias, municipality of Jaboatão dos Guararapes. Most works were gifts from the artists themselves, some of them connected to the Armorial Movement, such as Gilvan Samico, Dantas Suassuna and Romero de Andrade Lima, while others, like Francisco Brennand and Aloísio Magalhães, are Suassuna’s friends since youth. There are also pieces made by Ariano himself (prints, drawings, tapestries) and by his wife Zélia (terracotta sculptures and paintings on porcelain). In quantitative terms, the highlights of the collection are represented by Francisco Brennand and Dantas Suassuna (son of Ariano and Zélia). |
